How to Initiate a First French Kiss

French kissing for the first time is intimidating as it is a more intimate way of kissing. The most important part of French kissing to make sure that you're ready for this next step along with your partner. As far as French kissing goes, it isn't that different from a close lipped kiss.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start with the lean in. A French kiss is simply an extra addition to a normal close lipped kiss. You start with all the same basics. You want to lean in and almost kiss the other person. Pause for a moment when you're very close to kissing them. You don't want to dive in to the kiss because the other person may not be ready for that step yet. They will either pull away, move in to the kiss, or just freeze. Don't worry, first kisses make everyone nervous.

  2. Step 2

If the person you want to kiss doesn't move away, finish leaning in and do a simple closed lip kiss.

  3. Step 3

To start a French kiss, open your mouth slightly. This is a easy, pretty obvious signal for the start of a French kiss. The person you're kissing will either mirror the movement, and you can move to the next step of French kissing, or will keep their mouth closed.

  4. Step 4

If they don't open their mouth for the kiss, lightly and gently run your tongue over their bottom lip. They'll either respond by opening their mouth a little or not. If they don't, go back to the close lipped kiss.

  5. Step 5

If the person that your kissing does open their mouth, gently touch tongues. The point of French kissing is to massage their tongue with yours.

  6. Step 6

To end the French kiss, go back to a close lipped kiss and then lean back.

Tips & Warnings
  • Lean in gently and steady yourself either on a wall or lightly against the person you're kissing. Moving in to fast can accidentally make both you and your partners front teeth to clink together.
  • Try not to stress over the thought of something going wrong. This is new and different. If sometime does go wrong, laugh it off. If everything goes perfect the first time, then how can you have fun practicing?
