Treat and Prevent Cavities Naturally

Dental caries, or cavities, are caused by an infectious disease that damages the teeth and leads to pain, infection and tooth loss. While severe dental problems should be treated by a dentist, you can reduce the occurrence of cavities and slow the decay of teeth through natural treatments in your own home. Instructions

Make your own daily mouthwash to help prevent and reduce the spread of cavities. Boil water and vodka, adding 12 drops of peppermint essential oil and 5 drops of myrrh essential oil once the liquid has cooled. The vodka will kill cavity-causing germs and bacteria while the myrrh protects your gums.

Chew gum that contains xylitol, a naturally occurring sweetener that does not affect insulin levels in diabetics. Xylitol, which is now available in many different common chewing gum brands, actively repairs cavities and prevent future tooth decay. Always review the brand label for other sugar additives that may harm your teeth.

Eat natural unsweetened yogurt everyday. Yogurt has natural antifungal and antibacterial properties that can rid the mouth of harmful yeast, germs and bacteria that cause cavities. It is also rich in the calcium that the body needs for strong teeth and gums.

    • 4

Stay away from sugary foods, particularly suckers and hard candies that remain in the mouth for a long time. If you do indulge, brush and floss your teeth and use mouthwash as soon as possible afterwards to prevent cavities and tooth decay.

    • 5

Drink at least one glass of green tea daily to prevent cavities. Green tea is not only naturally high in healthy vitamins and minerals, it can lower cholesterol, promote the immune system, reduce the risk of cancer and prevent and treat dental caries. Studies have shown that drinking green tea greatly reduces plague formation, which leads to cavities and gum disease.
