Colorado is a challenging solitaire game that requires a good memory and a little luck with the cards. Colorado solitaire can be a tough game to master as one wrong move can ruin your chances of winning, but success in this game can be a rewarding feeling.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Shuffle two decks of standard playing cards, minus the jokers, together. Turn 20 cards over and lay them face up on the table, forming three rows with eight across on the top two rows and four cards in the final row.

  2. Step 2

Start play by picking out aces from the face up cards and creating starting piles with them above the first row of cards. The object of the game is to count up from ace to king and down from ace to two in matching suits. The eight aces will be used throughout the game to start these piles.

  3. Step 3

Hold the deck in your hand and put face up cards into each of the missing spots, if there are any. You should have the twenty face up cards again. Find all playable cards and play them on the foundation piles on the top. For example, if you have played the ace of spades at the top and you have the king of spades face up, you can pick it up and play it on the ace. Then, if you have the queen of spades, you can play that and so on. The same goes for counting up from ace to king.

  4. Step 4

Continue to fill in the holes you have created from played cards by placing a new face up card in its place.

  5. Step 5

Begin drawing from the deck once you are out of playing options with the 20 face up cards. Draw one card at a time. Play it on a foundation pile if you can, but if you can't, you must put it on top of one of the 20 face up cards. Keep in mind here that you can only play the top card from a pile, so choose wisely and remember what cards you are covering.

  6. Step 6

Win the game by playing all the cards in descending order from ace to two and in ascending order from ace to king. This has to be done in one turn through the deck, however, as there is no re-deal.

Tips & Warnings
  • In Colorado solitaire, a good strategy when adding cards to the face up piles is to place cards on top of cards in the same suit, and as close in number order as possible. Always remember to do your best to remember which cards are underneath, as one wrong placement can end your chances of completing the game.
