Science fiction comic books are a staple in any collection of great comics. If you want to draw your own illustrations, then you need to know the nuances and methods of comic book drawing. These methods are tricky enough without worrying about drawing space creatures or galaxies. Learn how to draw comic book science fiction in a way that captures your imagination and the spirit of the genre.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide on the genre for your science fiction comic book. Select from a number of science fiction genres such as fantasy, space, manga, superhero and others.

  2. Step 2

Sketch freehand the kind of characters and creatures you want to appear in your comic book. Sift through your favorite comic books for ideas on drawing and inspiration.

  3. Step 3

Buy a book on drawing comic book characters or fantasy art. This book will be especially helpful if you are not a seasoned artist. Practice drawing characters to go along with a plotline. Then draw them repeatedly to get used to drawing characters and make them your own.

  4. Step 4

Think of the atmosphere you want your characters to be in. Draw a world for your new characters to inhabit, but bear in mind the genre of science fiction you are working within. Try referencing actual landscapes for ideas and then adding surrealistic elements to capture the science fiction essence.

  5. Step 5

Write a brief biography of your main characters and a brief description of the world in which they live in. Revisit the characters and landscapes you have drawn previously and tweak them to reflect any new wild ideas. Also add color using colored pencils, markers, paints or pastels.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember that nothing is off limits in science fiction drawing. The more bizarre the better; make it a reflection without any confines of reality.
  • Learn the basics of figure drawing before drawing any characters. Use simple strokes for sketches then move to more advanced detailing once you are comfortable with the general form.
  • Watch your favorite science fiction films or read your favorite science fiction novels for inspiration. Write down any aspects of these mediums you like and use them to draw your comic book science fiction.
