Nitro radio-controlled (RC) cars are fun to drive and own. They run faster than electric RCs and can be upgraded to make them even faster. It is a popular sport that both kids and adults enjoy alike and there are competitions for those who would like to take their hobby to a new level. The following steps will help you purchase a nitro-powered RC car.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • RC Car
  • Receiver
  • Servos
  • Engine
  • Nitro Fuel
  1. Step 1

Decide which kind of nitro vehicle you want. Most people lump all types as cars when they first get into the hobby. You can buy on or off-road cars or trucks or even buggies. Part of the decision is if you want to race or just play with your RC car in the street.

  2. Step 2

Find a kit you want. You can get a Ready To Run or RTR kit or build your own. The RTR will come with everything you basically need. With unassembled kits you will have to put everything together, but there will be instructions on how to do this.

  3. Step 3

Purchase an RC receiver, servos for the car to acknowledge the receiver, an engine (which won't come in an RTR model) and fuel.

Tips & Warnings
  • Nitro is the fuel used in a nitro-powered RC car.
  • You can purchase a nitro starter kit from most hobby shops. The kitt will have all the items you need to get your car running. This includes the servos, engine and related items.
  • You will need to purchase additional accessories to replace those that break or wear out.
  • Nitro cars require more maintenance than electric cars.
