Step1
Be a retired member of the U.S. Armed Forces (or retiring within the next year), a member of the U.S. Armed Forces who has been released from active duty after no less than 6 years of service or a member of the U.S Army Reserves with no less than 6 years of service. Troops to Teachers is only open to this select group of individuals.
Step2
Ensure that you hold at least a baccalaureate degree, if you plan on teaching at the elementary or secondary level. Those who go through this program to teach the nation's youth must be educationally qualified to do so. Having a college education ensures that you are.
Step3
Prove that you attended college for a minimum of one year and that you have had a minimum of six years' experience in your chosen technical vocational field, if you plan on teaching at the technical/vocational level.
Step4
Show that you were approved under the former Troops to Teachers program prior to September 15, 2005.
