How to Win a Sport Sambo Match

Sport Sambo is the official martial art of Russia. It started out as the main form of training for self defense in the Soviet military. They now have tournaments across their country that draw a large crowds. It's gaining popularity in America and clubs are forming that host competitions. Follow these steps to learn how to win a Sport Sambo match.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Hold down your opponent for 10 seconds and you can score 2 points. You get one hold down in each match.

  2. Step 2

    Restrain your opponent for 20 seconds and you can earn 4 points. Because you only get one hold down per match, attempt to hold them down for 20 seconds so that you get the most points possible.

  3. Step 3

    Execute the perfect throw of your opponent and you win the Sport Sambo match immediately with a total victory. The throw is deemed a success when your opponent's balance is broken and you can get him down in one swift movement.

  4. Step 4

    Win on a technicality if you gain a 12-point advantage on your opponent. This is done in a combination of hold downs and throws.

  5. Step 5

    Accumulate the most points by the end of the 6-minute Sport Sambo match. If you are tied at the end of the match you will go into overtime for 1 minute.

Tips & Warnings
  • Sport Sambo is a combination of different forms of wrestling that focus more on grappling.
  • Don't practice Sambo without proper training. It can result in injury or death.
