How to Compare DLP & LCD TVs

LCD, DLP, the list goes on and on of available television technology jargon that are volleyed about by commercials and salespeople. Discover what this all means and wade through the jargon to get to the core of the technology. There are methods to compare the two television technologies that are easy to understand.

Instructions

1. Go to an electronics store that has both the DLP and LCD set up so the visual comparison is easier to make. Many other factors can influence the comparison if they are not compared at the same time.

2. Make sure each is equipped properly without having to install additional equipment. For instance, some DLP televisions are not cable-ready for HDTV and therefore will require a separate tuner to receive programming.

3. View as many different types of programs on each set as possible. Sporting events for instance have faster motion and a crisp clear picture is required, while for outdoor adventure programming the richness of color is more important.

4. Ask what chip display native resolution and what processes are used for the chip display.

5. Notice the contrast ratios on each type of television. A greater ratio usually indicates a better contrast.

6. View the televisions at different distances and angles. Some televisions will look different for various positions around the room.

7. Pay attention to the color saturation of each television. Basically the colors pop off the screen for higher saturation, and are more grey or dull in appearance for lower saturation.
