How to Repair Sliding Windows
Sliding windows consist of usually two sashes, one fixed in place and the other that slides left and right on tracks. Free of mechanical parts, sliding windows typically experience few problems. Problems that do occur can be easily fixed without needing to call a professional. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Brush and vacuum the channel to see if this helps the window slide. If not, look a little closer at the window itself. Is the weather stripping worn or torn? Perhaps there is a plastic glider on the window that is damaged, or the frame itself is bent.
-
2
Remove the damaged glider or weather stripping and take it with you to your nearby home improvement store. This will ensure you get the right replacement and save you time and frustration.
-
-
3
Align the replacement glider where it was originally screwed to the window frame and tighten the screws. You may need to use the existing screws or the part may come with new screws.
-
4
Replace the weather stripping by removing the window sash from the frame and sliding or folding the weather stripping into its slot on the window sash. Secure with backing if provided and pushing firmly into place with a screwdriver or utility knife.
-
5
Use a level and a rubber mallet to straighten a bent frame. Gently tap the frame, not just the spot that is bent but the surrounding area to straighten it. Use the level to make certain the frame is straight. If the frame has become too bent, you may have to replace the entire window sash.

I can easily lift my sliding windows out of place. I have a pole to block its path in case someone tries to open it. But what can I use to stop someone from just lifting and popping the window open? The two standard locks don't do much. Any amateur can easily figure out how to bypass the security. please advise. Thank you. -

I have this type of windows, the part of the window that doesn't move is broken, I need to find out how to remove it so I can take it somewhere to be fixed. Can you tell me how to do this? -
