Step 1
Make a pony tail by pulling your hair back from the temples and holding it loosely in your fist. It might help if your hair is a bit damp and combed so there are no tangles. Hold the pony tail tight by your head with a rubber band.
-
Step 2
Separate the pony tail into three equal sections. You can do this most effectively by running one hand through the pony tail and separating the sections with your fingers, running your hand from your head down to the end of the pony tail.
-
Step 3
Cross the right section under the center section so the two sections essentially trade places, the center becoming the right and the right becoming the center. Start high up on the pony tail near your head.
-
Step 4
Take the left section and cross it under the new center section. Alternate this way down the entire length of the braid, crossing the right section under the middle and then the left section under the middle.
-
Step 5
Work in any loose strands by including them at any point during the reverse French braid. If you've already crossed a couple of sections and realize there's a loose strand further up in the braid, simply grab the strand with the section you are currently crossing under. Don't undo the braid to the loose strand and start again.
-
Step 6
Secure the end with a rubber band or hair band or tuck under the nape of the neck and hold in place with a bobby pin.
