As organic food becomes a more and more popular choice for consumers, organic food co-ops have sprouted up across the country. Those who cannot find all they need at local grocers and health food stores sometimes turn to organic food co-ops to buy their organic foods. Organic food co-ops vary in size and scope; what they have in common is the ability to provide organic foods to those who eat organic. Read on to learn how to shop at an organic food co-op.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find an organic food co-op near to where you live or work. Search online and ask health food store owners about organic food sources, including co-ops in your area. Contact your local Weston A. Price Foundation chapter leader for a list of local organic food co-ops and sources.

  2. Step 2

Join the organic food co-op. You may need to pay a small membership fee and will receive the necessary information about the organic food co-op offerings and delivery schedules.

  3. Step 3

Browse the organic food co-op offerings, looking for good deals and quality co-op products. Ask co-op owners about the best sellers and personal recommendations for ideas.

  4. Step 4

Compare prices of organic foods in the co-op and available from other sources. Make sure you are getting the best value for your money.

  5. Step 5

Order organic foods such as whole grains, fresh milled flour, organic beans, organic meats and organic produce through the co-op. Consider organic foods such as bacon, pepperoni and hot dogs if available.

  6. Step 6

Pick up your organic foods from the co-op when delivered to the site host. Be prompt and respectful of the organic food co-op rules.
