Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to your local art and craft supply store and locate the section of the store that has calligraphy supplies. Most stores have pens, ink and paper in the same isle.

  2. Step 2

Decide if you want a calligraphy pen that is disposable or one that is refillable. A disposable pen is more like a marker and less expensive. A refillable pen is going to cost a bit more but is also going to last longer.

  3. Step 3

Choose a pen based on which style, disposable or refillable, you have decided to use.

  4. Step 4

Using a refillable pen will mean that you also need to purchase ink. It is best to use ink that is made by the same manufacturer as the pen. It is also nice to have a few different colors.

  5. Step 5

Look at your paper choices. Paper comes in single sheets or tablets, lined or unlined. Purchase the style you want based on the project you are doing and your level of expertise.

Tips & Warnings
  • Companies that produce calligraphy pens and ink have calligraphy kits available. These kits consist of a pen and several changes of tips for the pen. Most kits also include ink cartridges.
  • When deciding to use disposable pens, look at packages of pens that come in different tips and ink colors.
  • If you choose a disposable calligraphy pen, take into consideration that the tip of the pen will wear out causing your lettering to not be as clear or crisp as you may want it to be.
