With the advent of CDs, MP3s and iPods, it may seem like records are a thing of the past. This is not so. There are many avid record collectors out there, if you know where to look for them, and most would be interested in a record swap. Organize a record swap yourself and gather local record enthusiasts for a fun afternoon of swapping and listening to music. Read on to learn how to organize a record swap.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tables
  • Records
  • Boxes
  • Large, open space
  1. Step 1

Set a time and date for your record swap. A Saturday or Sunday morning or afternoon would be best. Most people don't have to work on those weekend days and they are more likely to be free in the morning or afternoon than in the evening.

  2. Step 2

Find an appropriate location. Decide how big you want the record swap to be. You could have it at your house if you want to keep it small or rent a larger space if you're expecting a lot of people. Hold it outside if you're not worried about the weather.

  3. Step 3

Decide what kind of fee you want to charge for admission. You can also charge money for those renting table space for their records.

  4. Step 4

Advertise your record swap. Place an ad in your local paper, post flyers around town or put an ad on a website like Craigslist or Meetup. Make sure you include the date, time and location of the record swap, what fees you're charging and the contact name and phone number of someone they can call with questions.

  5. Step 5

Set up plenty of tables on the day of the record swap. Get extra boxes for people to use in case they buy a lot of records. Have someone at the door with a sign-up sheet so you know how many swappers show up.

  6. Step 6

Sit back and let the swapping begin.

Tips & Warnings
  • You're going to want to recruit a couple of friends to help you with the set up and tear down of the tables before and after the record swap.
  • Set up a table with snacks and desserts to sell for extra money.
