How to Be Less Judgmental

Everyone makes judgments. But there's a difference between having an opinion and being judgmental. No one is right (or righteous) all the time, and coming from that kind of position blinds you to the world. Being extremely negative and super critical is unproductive and unattractive. So, avoid the temptation. Follow these steps to be less judgmental.

Step1
Build your own confidence. It's so much easier to be judgmental of others when you don't feel good about yourself. If you hate your job, then find a better one. If you are not happy with your looks, then get a makeover. Do what it takes to create the life you want. Being high on life makes it difficult to be negative.
Step2
Cut yourself a break. It's likely that you are your worst critic. When you are overly critical of yourself, you tend to be overly critical of others. Treat yourself with compassion and allow that kindness to spill over to everyone else.
Step3
Be open-minded. It's important to live according to your values and beliefs. Just remember to grant others that same courtesy. You don't have to agree with people's choices, but you must be willing to live and let live if you want to be less judgmental.
Step4
Face your fears. It is human nature to fret over the unknown, but don't allow fear to run your life. Prejudice thrives on the unwillingness to learn.
Step5
Avoid gossip. If you want to be less judgmental, then clamoring for the latest dirt won't support that goal. Skip the tabloids and water cooler gab fests.
Step6
Celebrate diversity. Differences encourage progress. If we were all the same, life would be pretty boring. Look for common ground, and then use it to bridge any gaps. We are all more alike than different where it counts most.
