How to Trim a Chistmas Tree in Gold

A gold Christmas tree can be both elegant and simple. Ribbon, beads, ornaments and lights create a magical feeling for the whole season.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine how big the tree will be. A gold tree skirt, gold tinsel on the stockings, and matching garland along the mantle will really make this room shine. Don't overdo the decorating, but certainly make the tree look full. An equal amount of gold and green will create a beautiful balance of Christmas and everyday beauty. Get approximate measurements of how much garland and lights you'll need for the tree in order to make the appropriate purchases. The number of bulbs or gold ornaments can range from 20 to 100 depending on the size and style of tree. If the bulbs are 3 inches in diameter, a full 8-foot tree might hold as many as 200 bulbs and 500 lights.

  2. Step 2

Create personalized bulbs for each family member and friend. Gold bulbs purchased at a hobby store can be painted with a gold paint pen with a greeting or simply the year and a name. Friends and family will have fun searching the tree to find their own ornament to take home. This is not only a gift and a game, but also a way to take down decorations with minimal effort.

  3. Step 3

Purchase a gold tree skirt and dress it up. Tie ribbon to the edges to give it volume and some glitter to make it more glamorous. Make sure to use kid- and dog-friendly glue such as tacky craft glue found at the hobby store. This is not only cost-effective, but will save time trying to find "that one" perfect tree skirt.

  4. Step 4

Top the tree with an angel or star to complete the look. A tree topper can be easily made with toys or discount store finds and a little spray paint. Attach florist wire to the bottom of the topper for attachment purposes. Make sure it is lightweight so as not to weigh the tree down or fall off.
