Step 1
Plan to make your visit between May and October. Campsites close in mid-October. Also, the trails are closed from mid November until early May. While a visit in the summer is more crowded, you'll have more opportunities to see what the park has to offer.
-
Step 2
Book a campsite on the Reserve America website. If you don't want to camp, consider spending the night in a local hotel or bed and breakfast.
-
Step 3
Enter the park through the main entrance which is on the west side of Route 14.
-
Step 4
Hike along the Gorge Trail. If you want to descend then drive to the upper entrance and descend down the trail. A shuttle bus takes you back to your car. Otherwise, start at the bottom and hike up. Be aware that either way, the hike is 1.5 miles long, with a 500-foot elevation and 832 steps.
-
Step 5
Notice the sites along the way. Go behind the Cavern Cascade. Walk through the Narrows and see Central Cascade, which is the highest falls in the park. Cross several bridges and get a view of a series of cascades known as Pluto Falls.
