How to Knit a Barbie Dress
Barbie is the 8-inch fashionista who's got it all. The one thing she doesn't have yet is a custom knit dress designed by you. Here's how you can knit a simple knee-length dress for your little model.
Things You'll Need
- yarn
- circular or double pointed knitting needles
- tape measure or ruler
- a Barbie to model your final product

1
Pick out the yarn that you want to use. Your yarn can be any color and any weight, but for the thinnest knit, you'll want yarn that is fingering weight. Yarns thicker than worsted weight might look too big on Barbie.
-
2
Get a circular knitting needle. To make sure you pick out the right size, look at the yarn packaging. It will tell you what needle size will be best.

-
3
Knit your gauge in stockinette. Cast on 20 stitches. Knit at least 15 rows and then count how many stitches you have per square inch.
-
4
Figure out how many stitches you will need to cast on by multiplying the number of stitches per inch by five.
-
5
Make the skirt part of the Barbie dress. Cast on the number you found in step four and knit in the round so that only knit stitches are showing. Continue until your skirt is 3 inches long.
-
6
Work a rib stitch in the round for 3 rows. This will taper in the waist.
-
7
Finish by going back to stockinette stitch for one more inch. Then bind off.
