The secret to wanting less is similar to the secret for losing weight. You have to appreciate more and complain less. Wanting is a chronic feeling of lack in your life; it eats away at you. One of the laws of nature is we draw into our lives that on which we focus. By learning to want less and appreciate more, we make space for abundance to come our way. Read on to learn more.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Appreciate what you do have. Learning to be thankful for your home, your furnishings, your car, your clothes and the rest of your material possessions is a good place to start.
Step2
Honor the value of your relationships. Family, friends and pets are vital to our sense of well-being. Don't take any of them for granted because in a blink of an eye, they could be gone.
Step3
Reject society's draw to keep up with someone else and spend, spend, spend. Remember, it's likely the more stuff someone owns, the more bills they must also pay.
Step4
Volunteer to help those less fortunate. There are many people and organizations out there needing your time more than your money. Spend just an hour a week playing board games with disabled children living in an orphanage or reading to senior citizens living a forgotten existence in a nursing home. Bring light into your life by becoming the highlight of someone else's day.
Step5
Keep an "abundance journal" in which every day you write down 10 things you are thankful for. Imagine what it's like for someone who truly can't name that many.
Step6
Read uplifting quotes and stories and maybe come up with some of your own. If you find one you particularly like, type it up, add some art work and print it out to keep as a handy reminder.
Step7
Surround yourself with people who appreciate being alive, healthy and working or playing. Avoid complainers or those people who always want more, who never seem satisfied with what they do have. They are toxic and will drain you.
