Step 1
Stay in the honeymoon suite of a hotel in Virginia Beach such as the suite at the famous Cavalier resort, right off the beach. Eat at Orion's, the seafood restaurant in the hotel, stroll along the boardwalk or window shop along Atlantic Avenue. Be prepared that in summer, Virginia Beach is very crowded.

Step 2
Visit Norfolk and take a cruise in a 19th century schooner (a "tall ship" with three masts). The sunset cruise is romantic especially in the summer when you will be able to dance on the night time party cruise.

Rent a cabin at Cripple Creek. Nestled in the Shenandoah mountains, these luxurious log cabins' best feature is the free breakfast delivered to your door. Each cabin has a king-sized bed, a wood fireplace and a Jacuzzi. The best time to stay at Cripple Creek is in the fall, when the leaves are changing color.

Step 4
Book a weekend at the Homestead resort in the Allegheny mountains. Although you can arrange for the romance package, you may want to get the adventure package instead, which will allow you to participate in activities such as biking, canoeing and horseback riding. Summer and fall are the best times to stay at Homestead, unless you want to ski.

Take a wine tour. Drive through Virginia, staying at a different bed-and-breakfast each night and visiting wineries during the day. You can also plan birdwatching tours or tour historic sites throughout the state.

Surprise your partner with a weekend in Chincoteague if he or she loved Marguerite Henry's books as a child. You can book the same room Henry stayed in while she wrote her books and drive over to Assateague Island to see the wild pony herd that inspired her writing. Plan well ahead to see the annual pony swim, which takes place on the last Wednesday of July every year.

Ride a motorcycle along one of Virginia's scenic drives. You can see mountains along the Blue Ridge Parkway or drive over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel, which connects Norfolk to the Eastern Shore. Pick up one of dozens of travel guides to choose a route.
