As the holidays approach people decorate their homes with fun and inviting items to welcome their guests. Many people use the outside of their home to offer the first of many welcoming Christmas decorations. Follow these steps to make an outdoor planter box for Christmas and your work will surely be the talk of many Christmas parties to come.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2-by-2-inch pieces of lumber
  • Saw
  • Drill or hammer
  • Screws or nails
  • Plywood
  • Paint
  • Paint brush
  1. Step 1

Cut 2-by-2-inch pieces of lumber into twelve equal lengths to making a cubic square box frame for the outdoor Christmas planter box.

  2. Step 2

Use four of the pieces to make a square frame. Then make another square frame identical to the first one. Screw the 2-by-2-inch pieces together with a drill and wood screws to create the square frames. If you don't have a drill and screws, then a hammer and nails work just as well.

  3. Step 3

Create a cubic square box frame by using the remaining four pieces to attach the two square frames together to make a three-dimensional cubic square box frame for your Christmas planter box.

  4. Step 4

Measure and cut five pieces of plywood to fit the four outside edges of your frame and the bottom, or floorboard, of the planter box. Attach the plywood with nails or screws. You will have a square box with an open top for the planter.

  5. Step 5

Drill six to eight holes in the floorboard of the planter box to allow for proper drainage. Be sure the planter box is sturdy and stable enough to handle the load of dirt and plants.

  6. Step 6

Place decorative trim pieces around the outside edges of the Christmas planter box. Secure them into place with small nails. You may use leftover crown molding or baseboard that's laying around your house for this decorative touch.

  7. Step 7

Paint the planter box with your favorite Christmas colors. Feel free to stencil on festive holiday designs on the sides of the planter box for added attraction.
