How to Make Soap Balls

Decorating your home can be quite expensive and finding the items that you want even more difficult. For the bathroom, one very inexpensive touch that can be added is making your own soap balls. These can be made from left over bars of soap or from new ones then formed and scented to your liking. They can be made to match any color scheme.

Instructions

    • 1

Gather together all the utensils and supplies you will need. Make sure that you have an uncluttered space to work.

    • 2

Prepare the water to be used for each batch. For each color that you desire to make you will need 1/4 cup of warm water. Place drops of food coloring into the water until the desired color is reached.

    • 3

Sort the left over scraps of soap into color groups. Similar colors together. When these are added together they will help form the new soap balls.

    • 4

Mix the scraps of one color with a small amount of warm water to help dissolve the soap back into a state that can be formed. At this point you should add the essential oil of the fragrance that you want these balls to have. Add a few drops at a time and check the scent. If it is not strong enough, then add a few more drops until the strength of the scent is to your liking. If there are not enough scraps to make the number of balls you desire, grate more soap from the new bars. It is preferable to use white soap.

    • 5

Allow the mixture to soften and mix thoroughly. When the mixture is about the consistency of sticky play dough, take some of the mixture and form it with your hands into a ball. Make sure you squeeze as much water out of the ball as you can and then place on the cookie sheet to dry.

    • 6

Repeat steps 3 to 5 for each of the other colors you want to make.

    • 7

Take the cookie sheet of balls and place in a warm, dry place to cure. As they harden you should check them every day or so and reform the ones into balls that have deformed. The curing process can take up to 2 weeks but is usually done in about 2 days.

Tips & Warnings

  • Place an assortment of different color balls into a basket or dish and use to decorate the bathroom sink.
