Adjusting the brightness on a MacBook and MacBook Pro is done through the preferences settings within the Mac OS interface. Don't get a headache from a screen that's too bright or too dull. Follow these simple steps to adjust your MacBook to the level of brightness that you like best.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Choose "Preferences" from the applications menu on the Macintosh operating system, Mac OS. Whenever you want to change the look and feel of the Mac OS such as making adjustments to sound and brightness go to "Preferences."
Step2
Select "System Preferences" then choose "Displays." This step opens the display preference settings. Click on the "Display" tab.
Step3
Adjust the brightness by moving the Brightness slider with your mouse. Moving it left makes the screen dimmer. Moving the slider right makes the screen brighter.
Step4
Read the system User's Guide or Reference manuals if you have any questions.

Tips & Warnings

  • The MacBook does not have the video limitations found on an iBook. A MacBook and MacBook Pro can perform a screen extension and mirror its video to an external display.
  • You can have a MacBook Pro running at a different resolution than an external display. You can set the Macbook Pro 15-inch resolution at 1440 by 900 and the external display to 1680 by 1050. You can drive the external screen to its fullest resolution as primary monitor, while using the MacBook Pro's screen for instant messaging, email or Internet surfing.
