Like most new video game consoles, the Nintendo Wii has the ability to go online. While at this time the Wii's online capabilities are not as robust as other consoles, it does have several interesting and useful features. The most common reason for going online is to access the Wii Store and its library of Virtual Console games.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Nintendo Wii
  • Broadband Internet connection
  1. Step 1

Select the Wii Shop Channel from the main menu on the Wii homepage. By default, it is the fourth button from the left on the top row.

  2. Step 2

Press the Start button to continue.

  3. Step 3

Continue into the Virtual Console by selecting it on the screen. If you have been to the channel recently you will go to the screen where you can select "Virtual console." If you haven't been in the channel recently you may need to click through one or more news pages to get to the same spot.

  4. Step 4

Choose the method of sorting by which the games will be presented. If you come to the channel often you will probably want to select "newest additions." If this is your first time, choosing "alphabetically" is probably better.

  5. Step 5

Pick a game from the list. The second screen tells you how many Wii Points it will cost, the types of controllers you can use with it, the games rating, how many players can play and the number of Wii Points your account possesses. The details button takes you to a lengthy synopsis of the game.

  6. Step 6

Purchase the game by clicking the "Download This Title" button. The downloading process is automatic and the new game is presented as a new channel on your console's main page.
