Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Learn by exploring several SoHo museums. The New York Fire Museum, located on Spring Street, evokes nostalgia with its collection of hand-pulled and horse-drawn tools, engines and other equipment from the 18th through the 20th centuries. On a different spectrum, The Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art promotes an appreciation and understanding of this popular art form through exhibits, lectures and special events showcasing cartoonists' and animators' work. Another art museum is the Guggenheim Museum SoHo, the little brother to the original Guggenheim.
Step2
Shop. From housewares to clothing and in-between stores to meet every niche, SoHo is home to an array of stores, many designer boutiques and upscale hideaways. Canal Jean Company sells authentic Levi's, high-fashion shoes and sportswear at discounts. The Scholastic Store sells children's brands including Clifford the Big Red Dog and Harry Potter in an interactive environment. Franklin 54 Gallery is a contemporary fine art gallery home to the work of established and emerging artists.
Step3
Stroll around SoHo and absorb its unique architecture: Cast Iron Building architecture Green Street to see the highlights. Many deteriorating buildings have been renovated, restoring life to the area. The neighborhood is now a very trendy, upscale area offering many shops, bars, restaurants and boutiques. The night life makes it a great stop after dark, but it's also perfect for walking around and just window shopping.
Step4
Grab something to eat. If you work up an appetite after exploring SoHo at this point, head to the Cub Room or Zoë for dinner, and afterward to S.O.B.'s (Sounds of Brazil) for the entertainment of a little samba.
Step5
Consider taking a NYC Food Tasting and Cultural Walking Tour. These tours combine fun food tasting and cultural walking tours through Greenwich Village, SoHo, The Meatpacking District and Chelsea Market.
