How to Choose a Location for a First Communion Party

For some, the First Communion celebration closely resembles a grand wedding with relatives and friends coming from far and wide. For others, it's a party for just a few family members and friends. Whether you have a backyard barbeque or a brunch at the local country club, the right location helps make it a memorable event for your child.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Plan well in advance, especially for a location other than your backyard. Many churches have a large group of children receiving First Communion at the same time and other churches in your area may have their celebration at the same time. Even for a backyard party, it's a good idea to get tents, tables and entertainment booked in advance.

  2. Step 2

Decide how much money you want to spend on the First Communion party. Parties do not have to be expensive to be fun, but a large brunch at an upscale restaurant costs a lot more than an informal gathering at a park or in your backyard.

  3. Step 3

Review the guest list to see how many young children you expect. Most children celebrate their First Communion in the second grade, so the party should be a fun event for that age.

  4. Step 4

Think about reserving an area at a park or beach. A park can provide entertainment for different aged kids from younger kids on the playground to older kids and even adults at the baseball diamond. Remember to tell guests to bring a change of clothes for these locations.

  5. Step 5

Find out what time the religious ceremony ends and check availability at local restaurants. Most First Communion ceremonies occur in the morning, so the party food usually consists of brunch or lunch. Pad in extra time for picture taking at the church and then travel time before expecting guests to arrive at the party location.

  6. Step 6

Discuss options with your child. Include locations that appeal to your child to help make it a memorable event. Try a favorite restaurant or a popular place that your family has never visited.

  7. Step 7

Choose a restaurant that has a private room you can reserve for a larger party. The guest-of-honor receives presents and you need to have extra space to set and possibly open presents.
