Make a small, personal-sized mini first aid kit for your children. Pack it into their backpacks or school locker to help ensure that they're ready for little emergencies while away from home. A mini first aid kit is an easy-to-assemble and fun project for you and your children.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Travel soap dish
  • Permanent marker
  • Sticky-back felt
  • Paper
  1. Step 1

Decorate a box for the kit. Using a travel soap dish to hold the kit, make a decorative bandage for the top. Draw a bandage and funny face on a piece of white sticky-back felt in red marker. Cut out the felt and attach to the soap dish top.

  2. Step 2

Make a contact list for your child. Print out contact names and phone numbers for the child on a piece of paper. Cut out the paper to fit on the inside of the cover. Affix the contact sheet to the inside with glue or tape.

  3. Step 3

Buy a prepaid phone card. Stock the mini first aid kit with the phone card for emergencies. Show your child how to use the card.

  4. Step 4

Fill the soapbox with some small first aid items. Stock it with colorful band-aids, hand wipes and lip balm. The items will change depending on what your child would tend to get the most use out of. For instance, items for a 10-year-old might differ from those you'd use for a 6-year-old child.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to stock the first aid kit with items your child might need. If the child wears eyeglasses, an eyeglass repair kit might come in handy.

on 3/6/2009 Cute idea, but check with school policy before sending it to school. Our kids can't even have their own lip balm - it has to go to the nurse with a parent's note!
