Most men will admit that they have trouble boiling water. But every man, (and you know who you are) should have one, at least one, handy dandy easy recipe they can follow to impress the girl and her parents (or whomever). Travel along with me as I give you the simple steps to make a mouth watering dinner that is sure to impress

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • package of about six chicken breasts (boned or unboned or skinless as you like)
  • easy boil rice
  • can of peas and carrots
  • whole cranberry sauce
  • Kraft Foods Catalina Salad dressing
  • French White table wine (any brand)
  • Dollar store dishes and wine glasses and silverware

Step1
Go to the markets and buy the ingredients as listed. Put wine in refridgerator to chill.
Step2
Make sure you get the dishes and wine glasses. Nothing impresses people less than your collection of jelly glasses and plastic take out plates. Spend the ten or twenty dollars and get real glass.
Step3
Place a cloth table cloth on the card table or where ever you are serving the meal with some tasteful placemats. Set the table. Plate in center. Fork on linen napkin to left. Knive facing toward plate to right. Spoon parallel with knife.
Step4
Put chicken skin side up in baking pan. If you don't have a pan you can pick up an aluminum foil one at the dollar store.
Step5
Generously pour Catalina dressing over chicken. Cover chicken completely.
Step6
Open cranberry sauce and spoon out sauce over chicken. Try to get the berries apart, as this will make them look like they were "hand picked" always a nice touch.
Step7
Bake chicken for about an hour on 350 degrees in oven. You can tell if it's done by inserting a fork into the middle and making certain that there is no pink showing. Spoon mixture over chicken every so often to make sure it's moist.
Step8
In the meantime follow perfect boil in a bag rice instructions and make rice. Do not over cook.
Step9
During the last 10 minutes or so, open can of peas and carrots and either heat until warm on the stove top or about three minutes in the microwave.
Step10
Prepare serving dishes. Place nice spoons in the serving dishes and a real spatula for the chicken. You can either spoon out everything on their plates, (as they do in restaurants) or you can let them help themselves.
Step11
Once every thing is done, move to serving plates and place on table with salt and pepper and butter/magerine.
Step12
Get wine and pour. I read somewhere that you can never go wrong with a French House White Table wine, and it's been my experience that people have only raved about it. You may be tempted to get the "box" of wine, but spent the extra money, it'll be worth it in the long run. I always recommend having at least two bottles of wine, just in case old dad wants to top it off, and it goes nicely with the chicken.

Tips & Warnings

  • You might also like to try your hand at some instant dinner rolls. They always make a nice impression and are sure to impress. Serve them on a napkin in a wicker basket..for bread...you can pick one up at the dollar store.
  • Also this is a great meal for church functions/etcetera. Sure to please and impress!
  • don't over cook the meal, even if your girlfriend is late. You can always put all the dishes into the over (providing they are oven safe) and turn the oven off. Leave the door shut and the meal should keep for up to forty five minutes.
  • Never reveal this recipe. Once you do, watch how fast your credibility goes down the tubes. I always say it's an old family recipe. I've served it to the best of the best..and as one guest put it, "Where did you ever find fresh cranberries this time of year?" It's sure to impress and set you right with the folks and your significant other.
