The basic procedure neccesary to book a holiday. Either in Kenya or any other part of the world and what to carry to make the holiday a success.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Your appetite and a tummy ready to eat.
  • Video or digital camera
  • Petty Cash to spend 500-2000 on curios artefacts
  • Adventurous soul and heart ready to dance.
  • sandals
  • swimming gear
  • A journal to write the experiences down.
Step1
First of all get a visa to Kenya and then book a flight. The visa you can get from the Kenyan embassy in Washington DC. Its no hassle especially for tourists. Ensure you booked a flight to Mombasa Airport not Nairobi. To avoid having to fly again to Mombasa
Step2
Ensure you have booked a hotel in advance so that once you get to Mombasa there will be no hassle and you will be picked up. The hotels are many in Mombasa. Since Mombasa is seen as the Miami of Africa. But it has an edge due to its rich exotic tradition.
Step3
After you get to the airport your guide in Mombasa will be waiting for you in the Mombasa. Its fair, to have in advance given him your first name, since they often wave a placard with your name in the waiting bay. However beware of dubious cons who might want to confuse you. Ask your guide for his identification. If necessary let him show you his work badge for the hotel hosting you.
Step4
Once you are received, and all your bags are packed in the car, relax kick back and start journaling or taking photos. Mombasa is picturesque and with its historical rich buildings, they are treasure to the eyes. In Swahili they say, Mombasa hakuna matata meaning Mombasa no worries.

Tips & Warnings

  • There are places in Mombasa like Lamu Old Town where the city has no space for cars. People use donkeys
  • There are also donkey derbies in Lamu too.
  • Mombasa has historical ruins like Fort Jesus built by Portuguese in 1500's. Visit that.
  • Mombasa can be humid so carry two warm clothes not for winter though.
  • Watch out for cons who might solicit cash for favors stick to your guide.
  • Never leave your room where your luggage is open. Even if you are picking someone at the reception, or visiting a neighbor in your hotel. Please!!!
