I’ve heard how you can make headbands from pantyhose and knee-highs, but no one I personally know has managed to do it successfully. I spent several days trying several different methods before coming up with this simple but workable design. You do not need a sewing machine and its simple enough anyone can make them!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Scissors
  • Glue Runner
  • Girls tights size 12-18 mnths.
  1. Step 1

Cut a 4-inch ring from around the top of the leg; just under the panty side. Cutting closer to the toe area seems to cause runs more easily in the nylon.

  2. Step 2

Insert whole ring over piece of cardstock or cardboard. If tights were displayed across a piece of cardstock use that, it works perfect. Fold one side down about half way.

  3. Step 3

Run a seam of glue consistently around edge of folded back fabric using a Glue Runner. The glue coming from the runner is very stretchy and will remain flexible after applied.

  4. Step 4

Fold other side back and press over glue.

  5. Step 5

Stretch headband and go back and trim any loose edge above glue line. Turn right side out and decorate to your hearts content!

Tips & Warnings
  • The child displaying the headband is 3 and really to large for this headband design. When not stretched as far as this one was, the headband is fuller and it is less obvious that there are seams under the top layer.
  • You can purchase Glue Runners in office supply and scrapbooking/craft departments.
  • Check out http://www.makethemyourself.com for more patterns and child/baby related items.
  • Do NOT wash the headband as they will most likely come apart and/or run.
  • Do NOT use ribbed tights as they do not stretch as well.
