Write down your interests. write what you like/dislike about yourself, school, your neighborhood etc.

After you've written your interests try to match colleges with your tastes. Go to your library and pick up books on colleges. speak with your guidance counselor with plenty of time.

Take the SAT's. Most colleges don't look at them like they did years ago but they stil count. The average college takes students with at least an 1150. practice your skills whether it be by reading, writing, or math. The more you practice the better off you will be. tkae tutoring classes at school if you must.
Step4
After you've taken the test during the summer before senior year visit anywhere from three to ten (if possible) colleges. The more the better as you wil need time to make a good choice.
Step5
Get Financial aid. FAFSA (free application for student aid) can pay for a huge amount of your tuition. Sign up for scholarships and grants as well. You'll be thankful you did later.
Step6
write essays and get letters of recommmendation. colleges are enforcing this these days. A powerful essay or great letter might be the icing on the cake for the college of your choice.
Step7
It's not what you know, It's who you know. If you know someone inside the school who can put in a good word for you you'll do even better than the others.
