How to Make Banana Flambe with Rum or Platnos Flameados con Ron

Want to really impress your dinner guest? Make it a night to remember using bananas as the star attraction and dazzle your friends with your flambe skills! Here's how!

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 6 ripe bananas
  • 2 tbsp dark rum
  • 30g butter (plus more for greasing)
  • 6 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 quart vanilla ice cream (optional)
  • lighter

Step1
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Use a little butter to grease round or rectangular baking dish.
Step2
Sprinkle with 1/2 brown sugar.
Step3
Cut bananas in half lengthwise and arrange cut sides down in dish.
Sprinkle with remaining sugar and dot with butter.
Step4
Bake for 6 to 10 mins or till sugar melts and bananas turn golden brown.
Step5
Remove from oven, add rum and ignite to flambe the bananas with lighter or match.
Step6
Serve hot with scoop of vanilla ice cream. (optional)

Tips & Warnings

  • Place dessert on top of a larger serving place to ensure that there is minimum spillage.
  • Be careful when lighting the rum as it is a flamable liquid.
