How to Throw a Child's Autumn Birthday Party

Turn a birthday party into a fall celebration by hosting it at a pumpkin patch. A pumpkin patch party can be an inexpensive, simple way to entertain birthday guests of any age. Just bring the treats and enjoy the scenery of changing leaves, growing gourds and happy kids.

• Contact information for a local apple orchard, pumpkin patch or farm near you.

• A birthday dessert

Instructions

1. Find a pumpkin patch near where you live, or plan a party at a local park and bring in pumpkins.

2. Contact the farm to see whether it hosts parties. Discuss the rates and amenities. Some pumpkin patches offer hayrides, pumpkin activities, corn mazes and playgrounds. Reserve a picnic table or barn location.

3. Create and send invitations. Buy autumn-themed paper and print your own. Include details about the party, ask kids to wear Halloween costumes and invite parents to stick around, too.

4. Bring fall-themed cupcakes or cookies, which are portable and can be distributed and cleaned up easily. Serve apple cider and hot chocolate.

5. Provide a pumpkin to each child as a take-home gift.
