Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- worn , useless screwdrivers
- grinder, file
- vice or clamp
- steel wool (SOS pad)
Step1
For a phillips driver, use the grinder and do a straight gradual grind perpendicular to the wheel to grind away the worn, bent portion of the tip.
For a flat driver, grind away the tip just until it is square to the wheel, no ding left.
Step2
Secure the shaft of the driver in the vice or a suitable clamp. For the flat driver, position the long side parallel to the workbench. For the phillips driver, position one side straight up.
Step3
Using the file (or whetstone), match the original side angle. File slightly until the side surface is renewed to the end of the tip.
For the flat driver, flip it over and repeat procedure on second side.
For the phillips driver, repeat the procedure on remaining three sides.
Step4
When all sides are looking new or useable again, rub them with steel wool to remove the burr.
They are ready for the toolbox.
