The Red Rocks area of Las Vegas is known for spectacular rock climbing and also offers some exceptional bouldering problems as well. Let's explore the best way to go about finding these bouldering problems safely and efficiently.

Things You'll Need:

  • Guidebook
  • Crash pad (uses to break a fall when
  • Chalk bag
  • Climbing shoes
  • Additional person to act as your spotter to protect you in case of a fall
  1. Step 1

    Get a guidebook for the Red Rocks climbing area. This will make your bouldering problems much easier to locate. The most notable guide for Red Rocks area bouldering is Islands in the Sky by Dan McQuade, Randy Leavitt, and Mick Ryan.

  2. Step 2

    Choose your bouldering area and determine where to park. Out of most of the bouldering areas in Red Rock, only the Willow Springs and Sandstone Quarry areas require an entrance fee. It is only $5 for a day pass.

  3. Step 3

    Park your vehicle and find your trailhead. Be sure to stay in designated parking areas.

  4. Step 4

    Inventory your gear prior to leaving your car and make sure your keys are secured to your person or backpack.

  5. Step 5

    Hike to your bouldering area and set-up you crash pad.

  6. Step 6

    Go bouldering and enjoy yourself!

  • Bouldering is a potentially dangerous activity and should only be attempted by those who have received proper instruction on technique and who have the appropriate gear to increase safety.
  • Respect Leave No Trace principles: take your trash with you, don't disturb the flora and fauna, take no artifacts/objects from the trail, and stay on marked trails.
