This is not an ordinary cookie recipe. It holds the secret to fat, not flat homemade chocolate chip cookies that everyone loves to eat!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 cups of butter or 2 butter flavored Crisco Sticks
  • 1 1/2 cups of brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups of granulated sugar
  • 5 eggs (beaten whole)
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp hot water
  • 6 cups of flour
  • 2 dashes of salt
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 bag of chocolate chips
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • A large bowl
  • A 5 cup sifter
  1. Step 1

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a large bowl, cream 2 cups of butter or 2 Crisco sticks then add and mix 1 1/2 cups of brown sugar. Next, add and mix 1 1/2 cups of granulated sugar and set aside. Beat 5 eggs in a small dish then add to butter and sugar, mixing completely. Set aside.

  2. Step 2

Dissolve 2 tsp of baking soda in 2 tsp of hot water in a small cup. Set aside. Put 3 cups of flour into the sifter with a dash of salt and 1 tsp of baking powder. Begin sifting and mixing into the large bowl of sugar, butter and eggs. Add baking soda and water mixture (previously mixed and set aside) alternately with sifted flour, as needed for moisture to make mixing easier.

  3. Step 3

Put remaining 3 cups of flour, a dash of salt and 1 tsp of baking powder into the sifter and sift all into the large bowl of cookie dough, mixing alternately with vanilla, as needed for moisture to make mixing easier.

  4. Step 4

Finally, we can add the bag of chocolate chips to the mixture. Be sure to mix well. Drop onto greased cookie sheet (1/2 tsp works well for smaller cookies) and bake for 10-12 minutes. Makes about 5 dozen (depending on cookie size).

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to sift the flour, salt, and baking powder together, even if the flour says it is pre-sifted. This is the key to fat cookies.
  • Please note that all ovens are different and you should watch the first batch closely to be sure the times are correct. The cookies are done when they are lightly browned on the top.
  • After cooled, store in a sealed container with 2 slices of bread to maintain softness.
  • Your hands may get tired of mixing so a partner may be a good idea.
