Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Protect your eyes from ultraviolet rays from the sun. Wear 100% UV sunglasses, prescription glasses with UV coating outdoors as much as possible. Too much exposure to UV rays can cause inflammation on the white of your eyes, inflame the cornea, cause cataracts and increase risk of age-related macular degeneration.
Step2
If you smoke, work on quitting. Smoking increases your risk of developing age-related macular degeneration, optic nerve disease, retina hemorrhage and retina swelling. These conditions could cause permanent loss of vision. If you don't smoke, avoid second hand smoke.
Step3
Exercise on a regular basis. Proper circulation is important in your system to all of your organs including the eyeballs.
Step4
Healthy diet. Eat a VARIETY of fruits and vegetables. Anti-oxidants help maintain the health of the retina tissue.
Step5
Get annual eye examinations, even if you "see fine" and "feel fine". Everyone should have their vision checked and eye health checked yearly. Many eye conditions are asymptomatic. Many eye conditions that are asymptomatic have systemic implications. Many eye conditions reveal an undiagnosed systemic condition.
