Why pay for expensive dog treats when you can make your own in just minutes for pennies? It’s super easy to make your own liver dog treats. These are great to use for a training aide or dog show bait. Keeps for a very long time.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • fresh liver
  • salt
  • water
  • paper towels
  • small freezer bags
  1. Step 1

Add fresh liver to water which is at a full boil. You may add salt to this water if you wish. Allow to cook until liver is no longer pink. Usually about 5 minutes.

  2. Step 2

Remove liver from the water and promptly rinse with cold water under the sink tap; all the while gently rubbing at the liver to remove any slime or white foamy stuff that may be on the liver.

  3. Step 3

Pat the liver with paper towels until dry.

  4. Step 4

Place liver on a cookie sheet and insert into a pre-heated 200 degree oven until it takes on a leathery appearance and feel. The liver should not crumble or break when picked up. This should take approximately 20 minutes.

  5. Step 5

Once cooled, cut liver up into bite sized pieces.

Tips & Warnings
  • This treat stores well in the freezer
  • This is a popular training bait; some handlers even place their bait in their mouths to encourage the dog to watch the face of the handler. A real plus that you know this treat is fresh and it's human grade food!
