Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sukkah
  • Table Linens
  • Craft Decorations
  • Fresh and Plastic Fruit Decorations
  • Festive Cards
  • Plants
  • Crafted Mobile Materials
  1. Step 1

Build your Sukkah. Check with your rabbi for the specific rules on how to build a Sukkah. Include tables and chairs inside of the Sukkah.

  2. Step 2

Gather natural materials to decorate the Sukkah. Traditionally decorations for the Sukkah are made of living or growing things such as plants, cranberries, popcorn, corn stalks and gourds. Plastic replicas of fruit are acceptable as well.

  3. Step 3

Create food chains made out of food that will not perish. Keep in mind that the decorations must remain for eight days. Connect the food with a strong line to make a chain.

  4. Step 4

Hang New Years Day cards around the Sukkah. The good wishes expressed in these cards are appropriate for Sukkot as well.

  5. Step 5

Ask children to create mobiles for Sukkot. Have them use natural, plastic and paper decorations. Use a coat hanger and art material to create individual mobiles to hang in the Sukkah.

  6. Step 6

Hang other artwork created by children. Hanging children's art is a great way to decorate for Sukkot and make your children feel special. Have the children create art for Sukkot.

  7. Step 7

Decorate tables with linens that have harvest themes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try spraying the decorations with hair spray or plastic sprays to help natural decorations last longer.
