It is almost shocking how many things we use require batteries. From flashlights to every remote control in the house, they all require batteries. Keeping all those batteries fresh for when you are ready to use them isn't too difficult, it just takes a little planning.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Keep your flashlight stored next to the appropriate size batteries. So when you need your flashlight, the batteries will be right next to it.

  2. Step 2

Buy rechargeable batteries and the coordinating battery charger for the size batteries that are frequently used in your home. If you have a house full of hand held video game devices, this will be worth every cent it costs.

  3. Step 3

Store your batteries in their original containers and packaging. You might find a sale on batteries or you are stocking up before the Christmas holidays. Just leave all the batteries in their sealed packaging to keep them fresh longer.

  4. Step 4

Seal or store opened packages of batteries in zip lock style storage bags to help maintain freshness.

  5. Step 5

Read the "use by date" on the battery packaging before purchasing to ensure that you are buying the freshest battery that you can.

Tips & Warnings
  • Designate a location for batteries to be stored, such as a drawer or basket. This way when you need a particular size battery, you can go right to your supply area to see if you have the needed size.
  • For important devices in your home that require batteries on a regular basis, make a list of the item, the size and quantity of batteries they use and keep the list in a place where you can refer to it easily without having to remove the batteries before going shopping.
