Pets are part of the family. They have their own personalities and funny quirks and they photograph well if you know what you're doing. Here's how to snap your pet's photo.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Capture their personality. If your kitten is playful and mischievous, try to capture her doing the things that make up her personality. Follow her with a camera when she goes slinking off to cause trouble, or have an assistant toss toys around to catch her in pounce mode.
Step2
Pick the right backdrop. You must ensure that your pet is comfortable. The picture will be most natural if your pet is at ease in his environment.
Step3
Get them ready for a close-up. Zoom in on your target, or lean in to get a really good picture. If your dog is most attractive when you can see all of his spots around his nose, make sure you can capture these effectively in a close-up shot.
Step4
Try to see the whites of their eyes. Drop down on the pet's level to take the photo. Most of their personality comes out in their facial expressions, and there is no better way to capture their nuances.
Step5
Get a family shot. Include your son in a picture with his dog. A picture with the boy and his dog will be easier to facilitate as your son can throw an arm around the dog's shoulders to keep him in place.
Step6
Use as much natural light as you can. If your cat sun bathes on a daily basis, use those moments to capture her. Pet photography is best when the lighting is bright and cheery.
Step7
Try black and whites for a more dramatic look. Shoot pet photography with the eye of a fashion photographer. Use black and white film to help capture your dog or cat in an easy pose. It also helps if you can blur the background a bit.
