Many women and girls use tampons during their menstrual periods. If you employ this method, you should know how to dispose of tampons properly. Here's how.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Remove the used tampon from your vagina following the instructions that came with your tampons. Often these instructions are on the tampon box.

  2. Step 2

Wrap the used tampon with either toilet paper or facial tissue.

  3. Step 3

Throw the wrapped tampon in the trash can. If you are in a public restroom, there is often a little trashcan or trash bin in the bathroom stall that you can use for tampon disposal.

  4. Step 4

Insert a new tampon following the package instructions that came with your tampons.

  5. Step 5

Place the used tampon applicator back in the tampon wrapper and cover it completely with toilet tissue before you place it in the trash.

  6. Step 6

Put the wrapped tampon applicator in the trashcan or trash bin.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some women decide to flush used tampons down the toilet. This can clog the toilet and cause plumbing problems. Dispose your used tampon in the trash.
  • Read the instructions that came with your tampons for further disposal rules and information.
  • Always make sure that you have clean hands before inserting and removing tampons.
  • Remember to change the tampons frequently during the day to prevent odor and leakage.
