How to Detox to Improve Conception

Over 9 million Americans experience infertility, and part of the problem stems from diet. Trans fats, white flour and processed snacks comprise most of the calories in the American diet. Detox your body to make an optimal environment for the healthy functioning of your hormones. Men aren't exempt; this includes sperm health, too.

Instructions

Step1
Choose nonanimal sources of iron. Inadequate iron stores in women increase the risk of ovulation problems and hurt your ability to conceive. Eat spinach, lentils and molasses. The form of iron that's found in plants works as well as taking iron pills.
Step2
Regulate your insulin levels by eating foods high in protein and fiber, such as beans. Excess insulin disturbs ovulation and makes the uterus unfavorable for a successful egg attachment.
Step3
Detox with organic produce. Pesticides can disrupt normal hormone functioning in women and impair sperm quality in men. If you can't afford to eat all organic produce, buy organic brands of the produce known for the highest pesticide residues such as peaches, apples, strawberries, celery and lettuce.
Step4
Replace trans fats with monounsaturated fats. Look for the word "hydrogenated" in the ingredient list of your favorite snack foods. If you see it, put it back on the shelf. Instead, choose monounsaturated fat-rich snacks like guacamole, nuts or peanut butter.
Step5
Load up on vitamin C rich foods to help sperm quality. Vitamin C improves sperm count, motility, form and function. Bell peppers, orange juice and strawberries work well.
Step6
Add beta-carotene rich foods to your diet. Beta-carotene can reduce oxidation damage in older women trying to conceive. It also improves sperm motility. Eat carrots, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie.
