Everyone wants to find a way to lose weight quickly and effectively without much effort. Unfortunately, many of the products that promise to help you do this are mostly diet scams. In order to avoid wasting your time and money on these scams, you need to learn how to tell the difference between a legitimate weight loss plan and a hoax.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Look for unrealistic promises. If a product advertises itself as a magic pill that makes you lose 10 pounds in 10 days, then it is probably a scam.

  2. Step 2

Stay away from products labeled as fat, carbohydrate and sugar blockers. Many times these products cause stomach problems and end up blocking the absorption of important nutrients.

  3. Step 3

Check out the photos from past users. If you see numerous dramatic before and after pictures in their advertising, then it is most likely a scam.

  4. Step 4

Steer clear of herbal teas that promise to help you lose weight. These teas are usually high in caffeine and simply make you lose some water weight.

  5. Step 5

Research any diet product before you buy it. In order to avoid scams, look online for consumer reviews. Don't use the company website for your research; it only contains biased reports.

  6. Step 6

Read the fine print. If the product states that you need diet and exercise for the product to be effective, then it is a diet scam.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember to check the ingredients of any diet product that you are interested in purchasing. For example, if it contains kava, it's not recommended by the FDA due to reports of liver damage.
  • The best way to achieve your long term weight loss goals is by developing a well balanced diet and exercise plan.
