If football has that special man in your life enthralled for months at a time – you may want to occasionally join him. So, whether you are going to a live game, watching at a local sports bar, or from the comfort of your own living room sofa, here are some tips to help you both enjoy the game better.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Have the right attitude. If you go into the experience thinking you are not going to enjoy it at all, then you will only end up making both of you miserable. So, whatever your motivation, try to find something about the experience that you like and focus on that – this is key to you and your boyfriend when doing things the other one enjoys. Football is a fun and popular game, so try to get into it and enjoy yourself, and he will appreciate your time and effort.
Step2
Know your stuff – or at least enough to fake it. You can study the basic rules of the sport. You could also engage your boyfriend, dad, or brother to help with this. Don't get to much information, just enough to follow the game without interrupting him to much. You will also be able to cheat and follow the crowd if you are watching a live game, or as part of a group somewhere.
Step3
Check out the stats of his team. You can do this on the Sports Illustrated, ESPN, or Team websites. Once again, don't try to cram it all in at once, just know where the team is standing and who the key players are. If you feel adventurous, you could even do this research on the opposing team, this could prove helpful.
Step4
Dress the part. One of the best and easiest ways to show team spirit is to wear your team's logo. This part is a cinch – looking good is what we girls do best. You don't need to look like a fanatic – no need for body paint and tattoos, just sport the team's colors and/or logo with a cap or shirt.
Step5
Soak up the atmosphere. If you are attending a live game, going to a football party or watching from a sports bar then there will certainly be great junk food, cold beer, and crowd liveliness to easily help you here. This is all really part of the fun of watching and enjoying the game. If it is just going to be the two of you at home, order some wings, make some nachos and buy some beer to help duplicate this feeling.
Step6
Bring your pom-poms. Not literally, but do bring your enthusiasm and eagerness to cheer and root on the team. Touchdowns are not the only time to cheer, take your cues from him and the crowd as to when and how loudly to voice your joy or grief. Do remember that a typical game lasts about 4 hours or longer – so pace yourself. Have fun, relax and enjoy the game together.
