Edit Word 2007 Themes with a few simple steps to further personalize or refine your documents.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Open a new Word 2007 document by clicking on the 4-square icon on the top right-hand side of the screen.
Step2
Select the "Page Layout" tab. Locate the "Themes" section on the far-left side of the toolbar. The "Office" theme is the default in Word 2007.
Step3
Click on the arrow under the larger box in the "Themes" section. You then see a large letter "A" and a small letter "a" with a row of colors underneath. This opens a preview of available themes.
Step4
Choose a theme for the document.
Step5
Edit the colors by clicking on the color box in the "Themes" section, the top box of three. Select "Create New Colors" at the bottom of the list of colors. Click on the theme button you want to edit.
Step6
Use theme colors to select the color you wish to substitute.
Step7
Repeat the same steps to edit Word 2007 theme fonts.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try a few practice runs. As with many Word 2007 features, you can get faster at selections with some practice.
  • Edit fonts, colors and spacing without affecting the overall theme by using individual buttons for each function under the "Home" tab of the toolbar.
  • Use the right-click mouse function in Word 2007 to do quick changes of font, add bullets and numbering or change spacing.
  • Remember, the themes feature works only in a Word 2007 document. It doesn't work in a compatibility mode, one done in an earlier version of Word.
  • Assign styles such as headings in the document. These automatically format according to the theme you choose. You can still edit manually.
  • Utilize the "Help" function to guide you further or get you out of trouble.
