Quick Styles in Word 2007 is a feature that allows you to pick from a set of formats for words, layout, shapes and objects inside documents. It gives you formatting choices quickly and previews how they look before you select, change and then change back what you don't like.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Use the view of the Word 2007 document called "Home." You can find this under the tabs at the top of the toolbar on the far left-hand side.
Step2
Look over to the far right-hand side of the second band of the toolbar. Just to the left of the editing section is the styles section.
Step3
Place the cursor at the point in the document where you want to apply a Quick Styles feature. For instance, you want to apply a Quick Styles feature to a smart art graphic. Click on the graphic. Follow the prompts in "Smart Art Tools."
Step4
Pick Quick Styles for words, headings, paragraph spacing, fonts and colors in pre-matched formats that present a certain image or feeling for the document. Do this by clicking on the arrow below the words "Change Styles" in the styles section.
Step5
Move the cursor down the list of styles, keeping your eye on the document. You can see how the style looks without changing anything.
Step6
Click on the style you want. Then document the changes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember that this feature is designed to give you the maximum presentation value of the document you're creating. For instance, the manuscript setting gives you the indents and space for writing book text, so it don't pick it for an interoffice memo.
  • With practice inside Word 2007, Quick Styles saves you lots of time, especially when creating large reports. No more searching for the right title or heading you used three pages back—it's right there in front of you in the alphabet boxes in the styles section.
