A syllabus proves helpful in any class setting, including a dance class. A jazz class syllabus helps you as a teacher follow your studio's set curriculum. This focus ensures that each dancer learns in a logical progression.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Set up a meeting with all of the jazz dance teachers at your dance studio. Discuss expectations and goals that you all have for your dancers. Think about what should be taught at each level.
Step2
Begin with level one of your jazz class syllabus. At this level students should be able to do isolation exercises as a warm up and should be able to do jazz walks well across the floor. They should also be able to count the rhythm of the music.
Step3
Add on to level one skills in level two of your jazz class syllabus. Students in level two should be able to perform jazz kicks with proper technique. They can also jete with straight legs. They should be able to remember and perform a two to three minute dance routine.
Step4
Create a level three with more difficult skills. Students at this level can do a clean single pirouette. They should also be able to do more complicated leap and turn sequences.
Step5
Include higher levels if your students have already mastered these skills. Talk with other teachers to lay out the specifics of each level. Encourage students to continue their jazz training to attain the highest level.
