How to Create a K-12 Curriculum Map
Curriculum Mapping is the process of recording everything that is taught within a subject area or grade level and making sure that it is consistent with the rest of the teachers' maps. Curriculum mapping is a way to make sure that all standards are being taught and there are no gaps when a student moves to the next level.

1
Create a curriculum map for each subject area and grade level that you teach. If you teach the same grade level or subject area as another teacher you should do the curriculum mapping with him or her. This curriculum map is divided into columns that outline standards, assignments, resources and tests used for each unit taught in the subject area or grade level.
-
2
Meet with your small group to review the group's curriculum maps and provide feedback to the other teachers in the group regarding their curriculum maps. This is also a chance to get feedback on your curriculum map from someone in a different subject area or grade level to make sure that someone not familiar with your content can understand your curriculum map.

-
3
Get together with the entire faculty where you can discuss common problems or issues with a number of the curriculum maps. This is where the curriculum maps will really begin to look uniform and consistent.
-
4
Edit your curriculum maps based on the findings at the small and large group meetings to make sure that your maps are consistent with the rest of the teachers' curriculum maps.
-
5
Turn in your curriculum map to the school or district office so it can be made available to the curriculum coordinator, parents and the community.
-
6
Plan for the next review cycle by keeping your curriculum map up to date when you make changes within your subject area or grade level.
