Step 1
Purchase a quality tarp. When selecting a tarp, be sure that it is made of a heavy, durable material. Thick canvass tarps are the most effective for withstanding harsh elements. Thin, plastic tarps rip easily and allow in moisture, which will eventually corrode the outer body and internal components of the ATV.

Step 2
Cover the entire ATV. To effectively protect your ATV, cover it completely. This means you must use a tarp that is larger than the vehicle and extends to the ground past the tires. Low, exposed areas will allow rain and dirt to kick up under the tarp that will form rust on the undercarriage of your vehicle. Doing this will also protect the tires' rims, which are also susceptible to corrosion.

Step 3
Tie a rope or a bungee around the tires of the ATV. Securing the tarp on the ATV will ensure that it stays on with strong wind. Wind gusts can loosen the tarp or blow it off completely, exposing it to the elements. Be sure that no part of the ATV is uncovered. There should be excess tarp that touches the ground around the entire vehicle.
