Instructions

    • 1

Take the mortiser out of the box. Set it up on the table where you plan to use it. Level the mortiser. Make sure the table legs are solid on the floor.

    • 2

Make sure the chisels are running square with the table and parallel to the fence. Install one of the larger chisels. Hold a level to it from all sides to make sure it's square to the table. If not, make the necessary adjustments. Repeat the process to make the chisel parallel to the fence.

    • 3

Set the depth of cut. Select the correct size chisel. Make sure the hole that allows the sawdust to escape is to the left or right and that it pushes the sawdust out of your way.

    • 4

Practice making mortises with a piece of scrap wood. Check to make sure the cut is the way you want it to be. Once you're satisfied, cut your good wood.

    • 5

Keep your mortiser free of sawdust. Use an old brush or a clean rag to clean any sawdust out of tight corners. Also, dust the teeth that raise and lower the head of the mortiser.

Check the slider adjustments periodically. Normal wear and tear on the machine causes the preset sliders to go out of adjustment. Check your owner's manual for specific instructions.
